Why it exists

Traditional dictionaries and long word lists kill motivation. Vocaboo turns vocabulary learning into a game, with interactive exercises that are fun and memorable.

Whether you're teaching Dutch to English-speaking children or vice versa, Vocaboo adapts to your learning style. Choose between quick multiple choice or deliberate typing, and get hints when you get stuck.

How it works

A round of twenty words.

Dutch to English, multiple choice, with the word list of Unit 4 from year 7/8. Hoek is corner: right, plus ten XP.

What it does

Play

Two game modes, hints when you are stuck

A die with red pips on a wooden board.

Multiple choice for speed, or type the answer for deeper retention. Stuck? Ask for a hint: the effort stays, the frustration goes.

Two languages

Both directions

Two pennants on one pole, pointing opposite ways, one red.

Dutch to English or English to Dutch. For bilingual families and international schools, and for anyone who just moved.

  • NL to EN

For children

Words they actually use

Three stacked toy blocks, the top one red.

Over a hundred carefully chosen everyday words. Simple interface, clear colours, no ads and no pop-ups.

  • 100+ words
  • No ads

What it looks like

Three screens, no manual.

Choose, play, and see how it went.

Choose. Word list, direction and mode, multiple choice or typing, and five to all words.
Type. Type the answer yourself; stuck? The hint button gives a nudge.
Score. How many right, which words to practise again, and straight into another round.
